In the world, new cities are built every year from scratch. However, they do not always find their inhabitants. Hundreds of new dwelling houses stand empty, staying in eternal expectation of their masters. Such newborn ghost towns are in different parts of the world.
1. Kangbashi, China
China ranks first in the world in terms of the number of buildings under construction. Every year New Celestial cities are being built, but despite the high population density, many of these cities remain empty.
One of the alleged reasons is the extremely high prices for real estate. Another version says about insurance in case of war. If the Chinese densely populated cities are attacked from the air, then it will be very costly to restore them. It is much more profitable and easier to settle the surviving population in new cities.
The largest Chinese ghost town is in the Ordos district, where a rich coal deposit was discovered. In the city of Kangbashi thousands of houses have been built, as well as all the necessary infrastructure, including the airport, parks, theaters, street sculptures and a museum.
The city was built since 2001 and was designed for 1 million inhabitants. However, now it is home to only 2% of the population of the planned.
2. Ciruvania, Spain
In the early 2000s, Sirouania was a small village in the north of Spain. But a few years later, on the outskirts of the city in record time, a whole city was built, designed for 10 thousand people.
Here built more than a hundred cottages and apartment buildings, as well as restaurants, shops, swimming pools and even a golf club. However, in 2008, the world economic crisis came, which prevented the settlement of the city.
A little more than a hundred people live in Siruenia, but all the necessary infrastructure functions properly.
Nevertheless, the city never really becomes empty, because here lies the path of pilgrims to the Spanish city of Santiago de Compostela.
3. Tianducheng, China
In the east of China is a small copy of Paris - the city of Tianchencheng. The city was built in the same style, there are its Champs Elysees, the Cathedral of the Notre Dame, and even a small copy of the Eiffel Tower, whose height is 108 meters.
The city was erected in 2007 and is designed for 100 thousand people who want to change the rural way of life to the urban one.
However, at this stage, "eastern Paris" is not settled even by a quarter. Prices for real estate turned out to be unbearable, as in other similar places in the Middle Kingdom.
Now Tianducheng more like a large-scale French scenery and therefore fell in love with the newlyweds for wedding photosessions.
4. Kilamba, Angola
The new city of Kilamba was built by a Chinese investment corporation 30 km from Luanda, the capital of Angola. And it was the embodiment of the pre-election promises of the President of the country Jose Eduardo dos Santos, who guaranteed the construction of a huge amount of housing in the shortest possible time.
Construction of Kilamba was completed in 2012. In the city, 750 multi-storey residential buildings designed for 0.5 million people, more than 100 retail spaces and dozens of schools were built.
The total cost of construction is estimated at $ 3.5 billion.
However, despite all efforts, the city's population is about 1,000 people. It turned out that there was practically no middle class in the country. The majority of the population lives below the poverty line, living on $ 2 a day. And therefore can not afford to buy an apartment even with the help of a mortgage.
5. Thames Town, China
Another Chinese ghost town Thames Town is a smaller copy of London. Occupies an area of only 1 square. km and is designed for 10 thousand inhabitants.
It has its own Thames, Victorian houses, a Gothic church, red telephone booths, and statues of Harry Potter and James Bond. The budget for the construction of the city was about $ 800 million.
The settlement of the pseudo-European place was hampered by the economic crisis of 2008, which showed that the layer of wealthy Chinese, on which the city was designed, is practically absent. Very few people could live in "Chinese London", so the city still remains a ghost.
6. Masdar, United Arab Emirates
Eco-city Masdar is being built 17 km from Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates. The project is estimated at $ 22 billion. The project is based on the principle of responsibility, which means a sustainable environmental environment in the city. This will be achieved by providing energy from renewable sources, minimizing carbon dioxide emissions to the atmosphere, and a system for the complete processing of municipal waste.
The city is designed for 50 thousand inhabitants, but now only 300 people have settled there, among them mainly students of the Masdar Institute of Science and Technology.
There are banned cars and only one shop works, so most goods need to go to another city.
Despite the fact that the project is almost completed, the city is still empty. One of the reasons that prevented the settlement was the economic crisis. In addition, the population, accustomed to living in luxury, may not be ready to live on the principle of responsibility that lies at the heart of Masdar.
7. Kijondon, North Korea
The North Korean village of Kijondon is located at the demilitarized zone and is the only settlement that can be seen from South Korea. The village was built in the 1950s with the aim of promoting a high standard of living that awaits all southerners crossing the border.
Despite the official version that there are 200 ordinary families living in the village, with the help of modern optics you can see that the houses are empty boxes without interior spaces. Light in the village lights up in the same parts of the buildings, always at the same time. Sometimes in the village you can see soldiers, as well as washing windows of women, the same for 15 years.
Until 2004, loudspeakers with propaganda texts directed towards the south worked in the village. Realizing the uselessness of such programs, North Koreans began to broadcast military marchs for 20 hours a day at full volume. Then South Korea launched a response in the form of roaring speakers with South Korean rock music. When the noise became unbearable, the radio on both sides turned off forever.
